Thank you very much!
We look back on a successful MoonLightFight2025.
In the run-up to the 2025 event, there was a threat of a second consecutive cancellation due to weather conditions. The entire Saas Valley was without power for more than 24 hours and the roads were closed. When the power came back on Friday afternoon, we met in a small group and discussed our options. It quickly became clear to us that we wanted to fight for our event!
So on Saturday morning, we began clearing the Kalbermatten sports field and setting up the event infrastructure. On Saturday morning, around 24 hours before the start of MLF25, there was more than 90 centimeters of heavy snow on the sports field. With the support of parents and athletes from the RLZ and the snow groomer drivers from Saastal Bergbahnen, the field and competition slope were cleared by early afternoon. Most of the infrastructure was also in place by Saturday evening.
On Sunday, we suffered another setback: it had started raining again. We discussed the situation in the pouring rain. It was clear to us that if the helicopter couldn't fly and the road remained closed, the ski race couldn't take place. Nevertheless, we decided to continue setting up the competition slope.
Shortly before 12:00 noon, the sun came back out. We could hardly believe it! The children's races were able to start and went off without a hitch. With the road scheduled to open at 7:00 p.m. on Sunday evening, we decided to extend the time window for the qualifying runs. We did this in the hope that some of the competitors from the Upper Valais would still be able to make it. And lo and behold: registered participants arrived from Grächen, Leukerbad, and even Zurich after the road was opened.
We were overjoyed! A total of 149 participants in eight categories took part in the MLF25. 205 people had registered in advance. This is another new record for registrations and shows that our event is developing positively.
The sporting part of the event ended at 10:16 p.m. with the final of the U40 men's competition. Shortly before midnight, our equipment was cleared away from the Jowang competition track. The after-party in our marquee lasted until 2:30 a.m.
Holding the MoonLightFight this year was anything but a foregone conclusion. It reminds us a little of a legendary ice hockey game. At the World Championships in May 2000, the brave Swiss hosts defeated Russia. Coach Ralph Krueger sent each of his players a text message before the game with this one sentence: “Believe in the impossible and the impossible will become possible.”
No motto could have been more fitting for the MLF25.
Thank you very much for your support and see you soon.
